Exchange Problem "Deep Search"

  • Hallo liebe Gemeinde,

    Environment:
    - Exchange 2007 SP 1 (I think more Exchange servers are used in the large installation in a large German company)
    - Exchange Web Services SOAP interface is used with NTLM authentication

    Our application:
    - searching through specified folders of the mailbox of one user
    - "deep search" is required: this is emulated by inquiring subfolders (using "FindFolder" SOAP function) and then specifying all necessary subfolders as parameters of "FindItem" SOAP function

    Example:
Search with "deep search" in INBOX
    a) The subfolders of INBOX are enquired (using FindFolder SOAP call)
    b) The query is executed (using FindItem SOAP call) on the previously found folders

    Problem:
The first search on a large mailbox can take several minutes. Subsequent searches are much quicker. On the side of our application there is absolutely no difference between 1st, 2nd or 10th search. Always there are the same parameters and the same calls used.
It makes impression as if something was cached on Exchange side or there is some long preparation phase when the first query is made. It has been reported that the time for the first search depends on the mailbox size.

    Best regards

Hoffe damit kann jemand was anfangen?! Rückfragen werde ich natürlich so gut es geht selbst beantworten oder sonst weiterleiten....

    Vielen Dank!

    Gruß
